South Africa is one of the most mature EOR markets in Africa. You have real choice — but not every provider that lists ZAR has a smooth, compliant setup. These are the ones we’d shortlist in 2026.

1. Deel: Direct entity in South Africa; UIF, PAYE, and BCEA-compliant contracts. Onboarding typically 1–2 weeks. Pricing is premium (roughly $500–700/employee/month or equivalent). Best when you want zero fuss and can afford it. Strong for tech and remote-first teams. Termination and offboarding are straightforward.

2. Remote: Also has a direct South African presence. Comparable to Deel on compliance and speed. Often slightly better on price; get a quote. Good if you want a global brand and don’t want to chase a small local provider. Pension and medical aid can be arranged through them; confirm what’s included in the base fee.

3. Multiplier: Usually the most cost-effective of the big three for South Africa. Percentage-of-payroll or lower flat fees. Entity and compliance are in order; we’ve seen reliable payroll and contract issuance. Pick when you’re hiring several people and want to keep total cost down. Slightly less hand-holding than Deel; fine if you’re comfortable with self-serve.

4. Oyster HR: Available in South Africa; strong for companies that already use Oyster for global remote teams. Pricing in the mid-range. Confirm their current ZAR and benefits setup (medical, pension) so you’re not surprised. Good support where they focus.

5. Local and regional specialists: A few South Africa–focused EORs and payroll companies offer EOR-style employment. They can be sharper on local nuance and sometimes cheaper for SA-only hiring. Trade-off: no single platform if you add Nigeria or Kenya later. Worth a look if South Africa is your only Africa market.

What to verify: (1) Who is the legal employer (entity name and registration). (2) UIF and PAYE remittance and proof. (3) Whether pension and medical are in-house or partnered. (4) Total cost to company including employer statutory. (5) Termination process and any handover fee.
