Multiplier and Deel both offer EOR in Africa, but they sit in different segments: Multiplier is the value play; Deel is the premium brand. For Africa, the trade-off is cost vs polish and name recognition. Here’s how they compare in 2026.

Coverage: Both cover the main markets — South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana — and a growing list beyond. Deel has been in Africa longer and may have more countries live with direct entities. Multiplier has expanded; confirm their current list for your target countries. For the big five, both work. For smaller markets (Tanzania, Rwanda, Morocco, etc.), check each provider’s status and time-to-contract.

Pricing: This is where they diverge. Deel typically charges $500–800/employee/month or equivalent in many Africa markets. Multiplier is often 20–40% cheaper: lower percentage of payroll or lower flat fees. For a team of 5 in Nigeria or South Africa, that can mean hundreds of dollars per month in savings with Multiplier. The trade-off: Deel’s product and support are more polished; Multiplier is good but not as slick. If budget matters, Multiplier usually wins. If you want the “safest” brand and don’t mind paying, Deel wins.

Product and support: Deel’s platform is more refined: cleaner onboarding, clearer contract flow, and generally strong support. Multiplier is functional and reliable; we’ve seen solid payroll and compliance. You’re not giving up compliance with Multiplier — you’re giving up some UX and hand-holding. For teams that are comfortable with self-serve and want to save, that’s acceptable. For teams that want maximum reassurance and are willing to pay, Deel is the choice.

Africa-specific: Both handle statutory requirements (UIF, PENCOM, NSSF, etc.) and have local entities or partners. Deel has more volume in Africa and more battle-tested processes. Multiplier has been scaling; we haven’t seen systematic compliance issues. For high-risk or high-visibility hires (e.g. senior roles, sensitive markets), some companies prefer Deel for peace of mind. For standard tech or ops hires, Multiplier is a valid and often better-value option.

Verdict: For most startups and scale-ups hiring in Africa, Multiplier is the better value — same core compliance, lower cost. Choose Deel if you prioritise brand, product polish, and “we want the market leader.” Get quotes from both on your actual countries and headcount; the numbers will tell you how much you’re paying for that premium.
